my vegan vet prescribed the following for dogs: 1/4 meat, i used raw

hamburger or ground beef; 1/4 vegetable, I cut up carrots and stuff; 1/'2

carb, I did brown rice (cooke tho). My dog loved it and did very well that

way. good luck. Lane

Suggest you try dropping out the rice. No dog in Nature would ever gather

and eat grass seed. Some carnivores do eat some grass, but not in seed, and

definitely not the seeds in isolation. Same for humans! Seeds are for the

birds -- really!!!

Hello everyone, someone asked recently about the raw dog food I was using -

basically i am using raw meat - minced by the butcher (hate going in there!)

and then adding very finely chopped or blended vegetables with it - they

love it - at the moment I am doing the transition to this food gradually -

they are 50% raw at the moment - in another week I will increase some more

and so on until they are complete.

I read something on a web site that said about in the wild dogs would have

some small prey with probably vegetable content in their stomachs and more

or less eat it all - the vegetable matter would be half digested but even

though I love my dos I am not prepared to go that far!!!!!!!!!!!!

Experimenting with this - but anything will be an improvement on the foul

smelling stuff that comes out of the tins - (they love that also!)

Any ideas anyone?

Lynne,

You are so wise and loving to treat your dogs in this way! No dog in the

history of the planet other than a dog in human " care " has ever eaten

anything from a bag or can, or anything that foul smelling, for that matter.

As far as I know, what you are doing is just about perfect for the dogs!

They are carnivores, and all terrestrial carnivores pick up some partially

digested vegetable matter, as you described. By simply blending that up and

mixing it into the meat, you've already provided significant mechanical

predigestion. No need to go further in that regard!
