Guest guest
Thank you! Elchanan for the information on diabetes. I'm a new member, and have been lurking and reading everyone's informative posts for a couple of weeks now. My name is Trish, and I'm a 31 year old woman in Michigan. I've been vegetarian in the past, but I have to admit that I've eaten a very poor " conventional " diet for the past few years. This has resulted so far in a higher than optimal body weight (5'4 " , 260 pounds), low energy level, and some fun diagnoses of dis-ease (diabetes, Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) in my last doctors visit. I am also 13 weeks pregnant, and while I was very physically active in the past I haven't been in some time. When I first started eating a vegetarian diet, due to a diagnoses of hormone imbalance which I researched and decided was due to my high red meat diet, I felt much better but did not have much support (okay, I was ridiculed by my friends and family) and eventually allowed myself to go back to a " normal " (said tongue-in-cheek) way of eating. Now I feel strongly that for my health and well-being, and that of my child and family (which is different than the previous one and very, very supportive) raw foods is what will work for us. My partner is interested, and committed to go 70% raw as he has some cooked foods he would still like to eat. I would like to be 100% eventually, asap really. My questions/concerns are these: controlling my blood sugars to a level satisfactory to the midwife and doctor, so I don't need to go on medication. eating a diet rich in the nutrients that I need to maintain a healthy pregnancy, nursing period, and health for me beyond that. I'm sure I have more concerns, but these are the ones that come to mind straight off. My daily menu is some variation of what follows... Breakfast - oatmeal or bran cereal of some variety (cooked) snack - sometime during the morning, two bananas lunch - pasta of some sort, or a pb sandwich snack - an apple (usually, sometimes an orange) dinner - large salad (iceberg, romaine or spinach) w/cucumbers and avocado, tomatoes if I have them snack - some type of veggie and some type of fruit during the evening. example - bowl of raw celery and a grapefruit It feels like I'm eating a -lot- of food...but I'd like to eliminate the cooked food 'crutches' and replace them with nutrient rich alternatives. I'll admit that in the morning I -crave- the cereal. I am also drinking about 8 ounces of skim milk a day, which I have never done before but am craving. Anyhow, this is already a really, really long post so I'll stop now. Once again, thanks for the great community with so much knowledge and insight shared in such a supportive way! blessings, Trish When you transform your whole dream, magic just happens in your life.
