The only time it is possible to not get enough protein is if not enough calories are being consumed, and the body is starving. Just make sure to eat when you are hungry, and don't skimp on serving sizes. Remember that fresh, raw foods are more initially filling than cooked food, due to fiber and water content. You probably will feel hungry sooner after eating a meal of raw foods, than you do with cooked, due to the fact that raw has more bulk, and less calories than a similar-sized cooked meal. Anyway, it is not necessary to try to eat foods " high in protein " . Just eat a well-balanced, and varied raw diet, and you will be fine Christine _____ Excellent, well put Christine. I'd add that excess protein is actually toxic, causing increased production of urea (uric acid) among other things. I'd also add the following caveat: what you say below, and what I have written earlier, are conditional upon a person being fairly physically active. When we are active, our energy consumption increases, and with it our food consumption does as well. A person eating a high-fruit diet AND being physically active will receive enough of all nutrients needed by the body. However, here is the caveat: Unlike sugar requirements, protein requirements are not particularly related to activity level. Instead they are primarily related to body size, a given size requiring a certain quantity of protein to maintain certain metabolic functions and balances. (No, in adults the primary use of protein is NOT structure.) So when a person underexercises and then eats the appropriate calories to support his/her body and activity level, he/she is likely undereating for many nutrients, and among these are protein. However, note that this has nothing to do with fruits and everything to do with activity level. We all " know " that health arise from a confluence of factors, food, rest, activity, water, air, sunshine, etc. This is merely a case in point (but an important one). Also note that, because almost the entire population is underactive, all health norms for protein and many other nutrients are probably understated, since they are based upon statistical sampling of an already sick population.
