Guest guest
Hello Sue! I always like to introduce people to one special book when I start them off so they realize right out of the gate that there is more to total wellness than just raw/living food. Even though it is our foundation...that's all it is. Many of the raw foodists will tout that this is ALL you have to do to be well and in some cases I would have to agree. If you started out eating raw food most of your life, you could probably make it to a ripe old age and live a life full of joy and wellness. However, that's not the case and therefore I believe we should consider what I refer to as the seven modalities of wellness. Great living food, clean water, fresh air, rest, exercise (the right kind) sunshine (this one is always forgotten and extremely important) and of course fasting which most don't even think about. The two basic elements to total wellness are building and cleansing. Building would be those wonderful raw foods and cleansing is fasting. Plain and simple and no more complicated than that. Now you may be thinking that's too simple and what about supplements. Basically we don't really need a lot of supplements but we should consider a food supplement because our soils are depleted and we really don't know where our food is coming from unless we're growing a garden! The book I recommend is.. " The Miracle of Fasting " by Paul Bragg Hope this helps and welcome to the journey Warmly, Steven Gibb www.rawfriends.com <http://www.rawfriends.com/> minolinveladom [minolinveladom] Monday, February 14, 2005 11:32 AM rawfood [Raw Food] New.... I may not have started out eating raw food but I plan to end it that way and make it to a ripe, old age and live a life full of joy and wellness too! > However, that's not the case and > therefore I believe we should consider what I refer to as the seven > modalities of wellness. I walk around quite a bit. I don't believe in fasting, just moderate meals as often as you need them. I can't imagine raw produce is doing any harm to my system that it would be benficial to fast from it. > The two basic elements to total wellness are building and cleansing. > Building would be those wonderful raw foods and cleansing is fasting. I don't believe in supplements either, I can't believe that man, as stupid and devious as he is, has been allowed to ruin plant food for the consumption of man by the Creator of all this. Guest guest
I am also new to this group and had made so many changes in my life since July when my son was on the net looking for a diet to lose a few pounds and found the PETA site. He went Vegan that day, then I read the site and I went Vegan the day I read it. I lost 20 pounds and still have 20 to go. I am not all raw foods yet but believe I am heading that way the more I read about it and that is why I am on this list to learn more about it. To tell you how much I have changed I came from what America considers as a healthy diet but is not because I was eating dairy and had sinus headaches sometimes. I have always been a healthy person {well, not getting sick} except for the sinus headaches and ear infections sometimes. My husband supports me on my vegan diet but not sure what he would say about Raw food even tho I talked to him a little about it and he didn't seem to mind. He is a hunter so it makes us a lot different in how we think about meat. Anyway I was wondering what you drink for milk or put in your smoothie as I have been using soy milk and I know that would not be in a Raw Food diet. Also I have been reading a lot about chemicals in our shampoos, makeup, toothpastes, cleaning products ect... and I have been trying to get them all replaced. Another question is what to do about hair dye as my red hair is starting to gray. Hair dyes have chemicals so was wondering what raw foodist do about that. I was reading a site where they said their hair started turning back to its natural color, has that happen to anyone on this list? Guest guest
Welcome. I use almond milk in my smoothies. It's great. take the skins off if you don't want to go to the trouble of passing it through cheese cloth. Then grind up the almonds ads water and blend. (all this is a good generic blender). Add a few dates if you like and go from there. Personally I add bananas and berries. I look forward to this every day. Good luck. Guest guest
Free the animals. I've lost all my extra weight in my two months raw. I hope you learn what you're looking for here Janeen. What America considers as a healthy diet is very silly, especially the food pyramid that highly intelligent scientists and nutritionists advocate. How people can be so intelligent in some respects and so silly in others astounds me. Wouldn't want to take away hunting from hunters. Neither would I want to see guns taken away from people with restrictive gun control laws in today's society. Oh, wait a minute, maybe I would. I'm not concerned about the chemicals in my toothpaste or shampoo, I don't eat either. Eating is the only thing that bothers me to the extreme, wearing animal products doesn't upset my equilibrium but I can see it as better to not. Testing of animals on products is a bad thing too, but it doesn't concern me much. Non- organic produce doesn't bother me either but many times it doesn't taste very good because of the chemicals. As long as I'm doing my best, as I understand it, which I am right now, I'm happy. I have some gray coming through, quite a bit actually. I heard I had a young, gray uncle on my father's side. I hope I don't go all gray, but I just leave my gray hairs as they are, keeps me humble knowing that I'm very old and falling apart. I don't think my gray hair is going to turn back to brown no matter how many fruits and vegetables I eat, but I have heard it happen for others. rawfood , JanPro77@a... wrote: > > I am also new to this group and had made so many changes in my life since > July when my son was on the net looking for a diet to lose a few pounds and > found the PETA site. Guest guest
Great post. I was thinking I was the only one that felt this way. Since I have changed from eating meat to vegetarian, then vegan and now, Im incorporating more raw into my eating I have met so many radical thinking people. To whom I have a lot of respect for. However, I didnt relate as much. My thinking is directed towards what I eat as well. Im not one for protesting or pushing my views on others, I merely live by my own right. I dont even oppose my views on my own children. Im a busy single mom with three young kids. I work full-time, keep up with three kids in scouting, and do volunteer work myself. I dont have time for all the thought about every little thing. I just know I needed to eat healthier and couldnt stand to eat animals anymore. I bought a puppy in August. I LOVE him, I never loved an animal before. After that I just couldnt eat meat. As for gray hair, well, i havent had to deal with that yet in life. I dont color my hair now and dont expect to in the future. I believe aging is a gift and I welcome its rewards. Froggy <seconaphim wrote: Free the animals. Guest guest
You are not alone, as they say. Yea, the places I go often have radicals protesting and such, just part of being in the raw food circles I guess. I agree with their causes, but protesting just isn't my thing. I have no attachments of family or friends of any kind, all the time in the world to do whatever I want to do. rawfood , Tara <peechysweett71> wrote: > > Great post. > > I was thinking I was the only one that felt this way. Guest guest
Hi, On Fri, Feb 18, 2005 at 07:22:22 -0500, JanPro77 wrote: > > different in how we think about meat. Also I have been reading a lot about chemicals in You can make your own almond milk it is very easy and very delicious. Firstly I soak my RAW almonds in filtered water for a day or 2 to remove the enzyme inhibitors. Then drain and place them in the blender with water a pinch of sea salt and sweetener. Some recipes say maple syrup which is not raw, some people can get agave nectar which I am also not sure is raw, some people might use stevia, but in my opinion it hardly needs any sweetening. You will have to decide which sweetener to use! I use about 3 handfuls of raw nuts and when they are in the blender I use about 1 litre of water, that is about 2 US pints. Blend till the almonds have gone into pulp like stuff, then, get a sieve and place some muslin or cloth in it over a bowl and pour the contents of the blender into the sieve slowly. When most of the liquid has run through gather up all the cloth round the top to enclose the almond pulp and continue to squeeze all the rest of the almond milk out. YUMMY. Keep in the fridge and stir before each use, I do not find that it keeps that long so best to make it a couple of times a week I think, if you need it regularly. I throw the pulp out but there are some raw recipes around for it.
