Guest guest
Relating to this Vegetarian Myth book: I have recently become aware of something that seems to be some sort of ( is it new?) trend. And I think it is important for us to be aware of. In the past few weeks I have encountered 2 people who told me that they don't eat grains. In both cases, they had health/ digestive issues and now are feeling much better. My conversation with the first person was very brief as he was a cashier ringing up my food purchase. However, I had a long conversation with the 2nd person. The 2nd person is eating meat at every meal. She talked about Loren Cordain who is the author of the Paleo Diet and of the Vegetarian Myth and of Rob Wolf who is a biochemist and nutritionist. Haven't read their stuff, but here is what I think. I've seen it before. This woman at one point was a vegetarian. I think for 2 years. She herself said that her vegetarian diet was unhealthy. I think that she has a problem with gluten and dairy, which many people do. She is now eating neither of those things and feels better but thinks that she needs to eat meat. I asked her if she had ever tried a eating a gluten free, whole foods vegan diet. And she said no and agreed that it might be something to try. I have seen this before. People go vegetarian and start basing their diet on cheese, pizza, pasta, etc. They have problems and go back to meat. I remember a few years ago , alot of naturopaths were recommending the blood type diet which says that type O's ( the most common blood type) should do that. Then these former vegetarians eliminate the wheat and dairy, start eating meat again and viola, feel better and think that they need meat, when they just needed to eliminate the foods that were causing them problems. Anyway, I want to find out more about this so I can counter it. I want to find out what the nutritional claims are. Nettie On Sun, Mar 14, 2010 at 3:18 PM, Hope <hope wrote: I was!
