Guest guest
"2500 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef" is already way too much water, of course, but I think PG & E is underestimating in this case. Sources have put the amount at 5000 gallons/lb, especially for California beef, and as much as 8000 gallons per pound (the latter number I saw on a sign in a San Diego science museum last year). That's more than the average person uses to shower for an entire year! It takes about 2500 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef. Versus 23 gallons for a pound of lettuce and 30 for a pound of tomatoes. http://www.pge.com/includes/docs/pdfs/shared/edusafety/training/pec/water/07 _%20food_facts.pdf Just one more amazing reason to not support animal agriculture.
