Guest guest Posted March 6, 2010 Report Share Posted March 6, 2010 I wanted to publicly express my appreciation for Jo, Nora, and Tiffany for organizing the Activist Showcase last month. At the first showcase, which was held about a year ago, I had the good fortune to connect with a person who has been helping with translations for LOVE's pamphlet on food and veganism. So far, they have helped with three translations (with more on the way!), which you can find online at: http://loveallbeings.org/vegan-basics/why-is-veganism-important/ At last month's showcase, I was impressed by the great community-led, grassroots work people are doing. I was able to meet some new people, reconnect with friends, and find new ways to work together. In this case, Miranda and I were invited by a community-led, community-run organization to speak about how anti-speciesist oppression relates with other social justice movements. When Nora shared her idea for the showcase over a year ago, I was inspired by her concept of putting everybody in a room and letting things happen. This is exactly my experience of the two showcases to date: valuable connections I never knew existed just happened. We each have something to offer each other, sometimes in ways that aren't readily apparent, so please consider joining us at the next Activist Showcase and lets let things happen! Can anyone on this list suggest a free or very cheap venue for us to use for the next one? Date could be flexible if needed. The SPCA has been a wonderful location for us but for logistical reasons it doesn't look like we'll be able to use it again for future Showcases. We'll also be looking for a few folks to help with some behind the scenes stuff.
