Guest guest
I called Souley Vegan; they said that Lacy Baker and her band will be there tomorrow. Live music and vegan soul food! What could be better?!! I'm planning to check out the scene tomorrow. People say the okra and vegan mac'n'cheese are really good. I ate at their old location and LOVED IT! On Friday nights in Oakland, Souley Vegan has a free live music, " Lacy Baker and the Black Diamond Blues Band. " 5-9 pm, no cover. It's close to 12th St Oakland BART, you can combine it with a romantic sunset walk along the waterfront at Jack London Square. http://www.ecocentricblog.com/2009/08/souley-vegan-soulful-sustenance.html pics on yelp http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nnjQ8m6oTbQbr5_zUhCiDQ?select=tPXbzlKQft1N9jFWNlY\ T3Q From SF Guardian: Downtown Oakland is full of surprises: Chinese buffets, weekly burlesque shows, art deco theaters so beautiful they make you forget for a second your stupid stereotypes about the Bay Area's " center of things. " Add to this list Friday nights at Souley Vegan, a neighborhood joint that opened a permanent location after years of serving plates of vegan soul food at the Metreon and Grand Lakes farmers markets. The idea of it — of cleansing all animal products from a cuisine dominated by pork, butter, and lard; of turning a food stand into a successful restaurant; of adding a free jazz show to boot — seems improbable. But Souley Vegan's " everything " plate, heaped with BBQ tofu, cornbread, black-eyed peas, greens proves it can be done, and done well. Friday nights the simple dining room plays host to jazz/blues trio Black Diamond, whose grooves reinforce the sneaking suspicion that you've struck gold again in Oak-town.
