Guest guest
I would love to support an all vegan store such as " Food Fight " in Portland. However, with Other Avenues, Rainbow Grocery and Whole Paycheck (non-vegan) offering a large selection of vegan products, I imagine the competition would be stiff from already established businesses with established capital. There is a small store in Pacifica that opened a year or a bit longer ago called Palmetto Organic Grocery. It's convenient but it's far too expensive and I'd rather go to Rainbow where there is a far larger selection of food. You might want to contact Palmetto Organic Grocery and see how business is doing. They do sell tons of vegan junk food at prices that seem close to double Rainbow prices. Their produce seems reasonable enough, however. Is San Francisco your only choice of locale? SF seems inundated with businesses that are " vegan enough " and rent is super high. I think a vegan truck would be a great idea. Drive around to all the middle schools and high schools and give them vegan options not available at their local cafes and stores. But don't call it vegan. Call it " Healthy. " Schools and parents will be on board if we offer kids " healthier options. " Friend of mine and I considered doing this and we were going to call our business " Brain Food " so don't steal our name. LOL! We were going to offer vegan breakfasts, lunches and snacks as a remedy for the garbage given to kids by the school cafeteria. I have worked in schools for years. Kids who get food before school at the local liquor store usually end up buying hot cheetos and a soda. Pick a few of the busiest high schools and appeal to their need to fuel their bodies with nutrition and not subsidized school poison. I would be thrilled to support a vegan " pharmacy " with body products (shampoo, lotion, skin care) , nutritional supplements/vitamins, herbs in veggie caps, etc. Surprisingly, even Rainbow sells a few animal product type supplements. Lastly, if you do decide to open up a vegan store, do it in a neighborhood far from Rainbow, Whole Foods, and Other Avenues. Close to San Francisco State (or even ON the SFSU campus) gives access to folks who may not be able to get to the stores due to distance/hassle. What I'm saying is: SF does not need another vegan place in the Mission. Amy C. in Pacifica
