There is just one week left to vote for a " Hero Next Door " in Care2's contest to honor ordinary people doing extraordinary things to make a difference. The winning hero will receive $2,500 and a matching $2,500 for charity. Help support these amazing Care2 members and their causes!

The " Hero Next Door " contest is a great reminder that our Care2 community is full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to make a difference. We had more than 700 nominations honoring heroes doing everything from helping out a family member in need, to traveling across the world to assist strangers they have never met. Our finalists are making a difference in the areas of animal welfare, the environment, poverty, safety, health, and more.

It's a close race between our top 10 finalists. So far Cathy Speck, an advocate for Lou Gehrig's Disease, is in the lead. One of her supporters wrote, " While most people would be curled up under the bed whimpering, Cathy has decided to devote the rest of her life to raising awareness about ALS and fighting for a cure. She rallies people around her cause in the most amazing way, and makes everything an exciting adventure. "
