Guest guest
Dear BAVeg & BAARN members, My warmest thanks to all those who have written me heartfelt emails and comments regarding my blog post about witnessing a man's suicide in San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon. As it turns out, I was not the only one who was disgusted by the lack of empathy shown by those who urged him to jump and then openly laughed at his violent death. A post at " The Scavenger " , a blog on the SF Chronicle website, today collected similarly distressed observations by others who were also present at the scene. Knowing that so many others are as outraged as I am by the callousness on display that dreadful day has greatly helped me in processing the moral and spiritual devastation I felt in the incident's wake. I therefore wish to express my gratitude to the veg community for allowing me to tell my story and responding with such genuine sympathy, because when it comes to suffering, we too often carry all alone burdens that are heavy enough to crush our souls -- but sharing them with others lightens our load so we can move on. The unconditional benevolence embodied by your personal responses is a credit to the animal advocacy movement, and exemplifies what is best about the human race. Sincerely, Mat Thomas www.animalrighter.org
