Hi all

We planned a great hike for Sat, Jan 30th. And if you're thinking you didn't see that posted to the list, you're right - you didn't. Remember that huge storm that came in, and while it was relatively dry the next week, I was worried it would still be too muddy and then it rained again on Friday night, so I wasn't actively promoting it since I suspected we might not make the hike.

As you'll recall, It rained Friday evening, pretty hard. So, we canceled the hike in the trees and Saturday morning, very spontaneously, agreed on a city trek around Berkeley. The six of us had a leisurely and very enjoyable day. We started at the Downtown Berkeley BART on Shattuck with coffee, then walked through Cal Berkeley until Telegraph. Stopped at Smart Alec's to refuel on their delicious air-baked garlic fries, then down Telegraph full of stores and other interesting people. Back up thru the university again, cutting back over to Shattuck. Got to see the offices of Jordan (the Body Technician ) and Alice Walker's restaurant ... Checked out Vegi Food, then down MLK over to Nature's Express on Solano Ave, then looping back around on Sutter to Shattuck and back down to Green Papaya where we shared 3 appetizers, 2 soups, and 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Of course, we also passed Chick-O-Peas and Cha Ya, but somehow we missed Cafe Gratitude ?

The new date is Sun 2/14. And same awesome trail at Mt Tamalpais. According to bahiker.com, "This popular hike departing from the town of Stinson, strung together from Matt Davis, Steep Ravine, and Dipsea trails, is probably my favorite Mount Tam hike, and is right up there on my bay area top ten list. The 7 mile loop features a bit of everything, with waterfalls, redwood, Douglas fir, and oak forests, grassland, canyons, and views galore. These three trails are some of Tam's best, and combining them into one hike intensifies their pleasures. Matt Davis is a masterpiece of trail construction -- the perfect trail through a spectacular landscape. The entire experience, from Stinson Beach to Pantoll (and back), is a joy."

Our backup plan in case it is raining or too muddy will be a scenic city trek, similar to above, in San Francisco, our favorite city by the bay.

If you're looking to :

- get away from the computer and connect with other people in real-life, - eat some vegan food, - get some natural D2, - talk about veg stuff, etcThen maybe you should think about joining us .... it might be difficult to get much hiking in with the wet weather, but Spring should be awesome with the wildflowers!
