Guest guest
Hi all I would be interested in hearing more opinions about Gracias Madre .. Early reviews are showing that the food at Gracias Madre has a seasoning issue - it is either spicy or bland (I like well-seasoned foods, both spicy and non-spicy). Before the restaurant had opened, our book club had picked Gracias Madre as the location for our next meeting (we are reading Ethics into Action. While the focus of our meeting isn't necessarily the food per se, it is a large part of the experience and wouldn't we all rather dine at a restaurant that is consistently serving good food instead of food that has a 50-50 chance of not being underwhelming.... So, would like to hear more opinions about Gracias Madre ... Reviews to the list, or to the Guide are even better .. or email me directly if you don't want your review archived in either of those forums. I would especially like to hear what dishes you've ordered and liked. Thanks! Guest guest
Took a lot of take out from Gracias Madre last evening. Great restaurant space, well built out, friendly atmosphere. Nice heated seating outside at entrance.Food was very tasty....black bean soup with fresh avocado was flavorful with a hint of heat. The fresh made blue corn tortillas (made from their own garden) were delicious...being made fresh all day long. Two salsas, one green tomatillo which is raw, and one salsa rojo which is roasted and very flavorful....amount of heat depends upon the chiles and tomatillos that day....each time they use fresh ingredients you will get a variable degree "hotness". Enjoyed the butternut and mushroom tacos. Refried beans were flavorful, guacamole was fresh and tasty. They had a cauliflower marinated/pickle that for my husband and I were quite hot! Tamales were good (for me a bit dense, I like lighter tamales...a personal choice), the caesar salad was fresh and had a soft flavor, you could always use more lemon if you prefer more zing. They ran out of cauliflower by the time I arrived so they were replacing it with brussel sprouts (my husbands favorite) and it was one of the best "gratin" dishes I have eaten....I don't give praise easily.I will go back many times over! They admitted they were still working out a few kinks (did not have a sleeve for the to go hot tea I ordered, so they taped on a couple of napkins instead).Chandra, the manager on site was friendly and even told me I could bring my new rescue puppy and sit outside as long as no one complained which I thought was marvelous of them.I highly recommend giving them a try....see what you think as every one's palate is different.Tammy <tammy Sent: Sun, January 3, 2010 10:54:43 AM have you been to Gracias Madre?
