Hi SF Veggie Girl and List,

Okay, you need athletic style shoes with a 3" sole that is uniform in height throughout. Found! Two examples:

1) The www.Mooshoes.com vegan shoe site has a flexible, lightweight, vegan running shoe in a "boot style" (it is however, an athletic running shoe), called the Garmont Kiowa Boot.

GARMONT Kiowa Boot from Garmont

Here's the description:

The Kiowa is made by Garmont, a leader in outdoor footwear It has all the qualities you need for an all purpose boot including hard-line traction, stability with agility , running shoe flex and a snug, performance fit. The Kiowa is also extremely lightweight, each individual boot weighs under one pound The upper is a synthetic suede and mesh upper and the lining is made from gore-tex The Kiowa has a vibram sole making it extremely shock absorbent

It's $140.00, but the leather shoes sited as examples were also expensive.

2) www.veganessentials.com also has Garmont athletic footwear in other styles with uniformly high soles, marked down from $100 to $40, but only in a few sizes.

There are also many vegan athletic shoe sites; I did not peruse them all: vegan athletic shoes - Google Search The sites that sell exclusively vegan shoes also tend to emphasize that they are fair trade, sweatshop-free, use organic materials, etc.

I hope you do not have to resort to leather. Good luck!

Also, I hope your foot heals quickly.

Best wishes,

Bonnie Knight, San Francisco

I have the Garmont Kiowa vegan boots. I measured mine and the height of the sole is 1 1/2" in the back tapering to 3/4" in front. I'd probably wear them all the time if they added 3" to my height.

They are really comfy and I would recommend them for anyone looking for vegan boots.

Cheers,

Tammy
