ALL ANIMAL ACTIVISTS -

RUN, do not walk, to get yourself a copy of the just-published book,

EATING ANIMALS, by the critically-acclaimed young (31) novelist, Jonathan

Safran Foer (author of fictional works, EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED and

EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE), wise beyond his years. This is

Foer's first work of non-fiction, and it's a doozy.

Due to Foer's present popularity, his book will reach legions of readers

which the AR crowd could never touch. He's even hard on Michael Pollan

(and deservedly so, I think.)

I'm only half-way through the book, and it's funny, informative, and

sometimes excruciatingly painful. Plus a lot of good one-liners. This

one, for instance:

" Most simply put, someone who regularly eats factory-farmed

products cannot call himself an environmentalist without

divorcing that word from its meaning. " (p. 59)

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR LOCAL BOOKSTORE TO CARRY THIS BOOK (I did, and they

now do).

GOOGLE Foer's name (or the book title) for a bunch of reviews, interviews,

etc. Esp. good article in the 11/9/09 NEW YORKER, " Flesh of Your Flesh, "

by Elisabeth Kolbert.

Great gift item for your non-activist friends and family!

Spread the word. Organizations, please alert your membership.

Cheers,
