If one's philosophy is close to that of Jean-Paul Sartre, one needs something interesting to do.Blessing the Animals is both interesting AND approved y folks like us, whatever the ideology.I'm all for hosting)(or officiating).

Persons ought to have olitical status that results in structured protection from arbitrary or malicious harm from others.I'd like to see more blessing through the political structure (and lots more vegetarianism and veganism) and a public recognition of nonhuman personhood.

I am forwarding this on behalf of my friend Dolores, who is a member of Unitarian Universalists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (UUFETA). and who helps organize this event.  Please bring your calm, well-behaved animals (or a photo of them, well-behaved or not) -- all animals and people welcome!  I am told this will take about an hour, and Virginia Handley of PawPAC will be giving a short talk about what PawPAC does.  This is not a religious ceremony but rather a way to raise people's awareness of the worth and dignity of animals and it leads to lots of other interests.   A flyer is attached.

Please forward to all the people you know who care about animals!  Thank you.

Nadine

A BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

To all who care about animals:

Join us in this celebration of all the creatures of the earth! This service affirms respect for all life, reminding us that we are a part of the interdependent web of all existence.  This symbolic ritual of the blessing continues the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi, our City's namesake and patron of animals and the environment. This year our guest speaker will be Virginia Handley, who works with PawPAC, the organization that works to make sure that our state laws protect ALL animals, whether on farms, in the wild or in our homes.

Working for Animals and Their Environment Since 1980

Bring your animal companions (or a photograph of them to share) to participate in this tribute to all creatures!

Reverend Gregory Stewart, Senior Minister, will officiate.
