Guest guest
As a vegan (which I'm sure many of you have encountered), I am always asked by my omnivore friends " are you sure you get enough protein? " So, I decided to track it. From my research, my intake was perfect for my weight. I took in higher amounts (also perfect for my weight) when I trained for the SF full marathon. I'm slightly obsessed with understanding nutrition these days. This is not a pitch for Brendan Brazier. He's just the first person I have actually felt I'm getting some good solid information out of on how to eat a nutritional diet being vegan. I think it is GREAT vegan food has taken off to new roads (gourmet sweets and meals). But I don't want the extra calories that go along with that. I'm reading THRIVE by Brendan Brazier (Ironman Triathlete who designed VEGA). With the help of doctors he researched nutrition, meal plans, and stress on the body. He derived a plant-based meal plan to help reduce stress, increase energy, and nourish the body even for the most active people. I've switched part of my eating habits and feel such a difference in performance, energy, and recovery. It may not be right for everyone. But if you are someone who wants to know more about nutrition, this could be a great place to start. He has a book. But he also has a site that gives you information within a 30-day period for FREE. I'm only starting to go through the online program below. So, I'm not sure of it's contents. But it seems pretty similar to the book. http://thrivein30.com/sign-up-now/ The most interesting part was during my training for the SF Full marathon through completion of the race, I walked away without any injuries. All of my other omnivore friends had some sort of injury. I actually recovered within 2 days. So, I have tied in the fact that what the body takes in does have a lot to do with how it recovers. I have been directing my friends to this site. If anyone has done research on vegan nutrition and wants to share, please send me information. Again, I'm slightly obsessed with understanding so I can help others. take care! Mari S.
