Guest guest
Hi fellow animal lovers, I'm sending you this email because I'm hopeful that all of you are interested in helping out, in some way, with the proposed San Francisco cat declaw ban. General info about the declaw ban is at the bottom of the email. So here goes - several ways you can help: 1. I'm attaching a copy of the petition asking the SF Board of Supervisors to enact a ban on the declawing of cats. We need all the signatures we can get in order to encourage the Board of Supervisors to take this on and pass it. Please get as many people as possible (friends, relatives, coworkers, everyone you know) to sign a petition, and then send signed petitions to Susan Wheeler at 230 Moncada Way, San Francisco CA 94127, by October 15. 2. There is also an online petition that you can sign; Just click this link and it should take you right to the site to sign. We'll use this as another tool to persuade the SF Board of Supervisors to pass the ban. Please forward to as many people as possible. Everyone is welcome to sign, of course, but we particularly need to have lots of residents of San Francisco sign. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/help-ban-cat-declawing 3. We need volunteers to get petitions signed by people coming in or out of the World Veg Fest (SF Vegetarian Society) this weekend at Hall of Flowers, Ninth Avenue & Lincoln in San Francisco (Oct. 3 and 4) There will be a few people there on Saturday and one or two on Sunday, but we need more people to help, especially as there will be lots of people, and this will be a super easy group of people to get signatures from. I will be there on Saturday, and can help you get started. By the way, it's always best (but not essential) to do this with 2 people, both for moral support in case you get shy all of a sudden, but also because it gives more legitimacy if there are several people working on the same thing, and people will stop because they're curious what it's all about. If you're interested, call me at 415/846-1362 or contact Susan at rappwheel. I will bring plenty of petitions along. 4. Peace March, Saturday 10/17. We will have a table at this event and we hope to have it set up between Noon and 1 pm that day. Rose Ann Harris and L Danyielle will be there most of the day gathering signatures and would be really grateful for any and all help. Here's some info: Mass antiwar march and rally When: Saturday, October 17 at 11 a.m. (March begins at 12 noon) Where: UN Plaza (Market St. between 7th and 8th Streets) Sponsor(s): October 17 Antiwar Coalition. For more info, or if you are able to help that day, please contact L-Danyielle at harris.rose, or Susan at rappwheel or Sally at stephensfw. GENERAL INFO: These petitions will be crucial in getting the SF Board of Supervisors to pass a ban on cat de-clawing in San Francisco by 12/2009. We only have this last chance. On 1/1/10 a State law takes effect, which Veterinarians pushed through, that makes it illegal to legislate what Veterinarians in California can and cannot do. Jenny Conrad of the Paw Project suggests that we gather as many signatures as possible supporting a ban on cat declawing. Unfortunately the legislation isn't going to be considered by the Board of Supervisors until Oct 26th. This gives the Supes very little time to act on this very important piece of legislation. However, the few weeks we have should give us time to collect as many signatures for the ban as possible. Jenny said the city government is Santa Monica was not particularly animal friendly, but they were very impressed when they were presented with a thousand signatures. SF is a lot bigger than Santa Monica. We can get more signatures. If anyone wants to help with petitions, let me know. Please print the petition out and circulate it where ever you can get some signatures. The cats thank you!
