Canine BARF Diet

I am a vegan and am contemplating the BARF diet for my dog. Aside from my

personal struggle I am having with this option due to my own choice not to

consume animal products and let alone prepare them, I am also concerned about

feeding my dog a diet she has never tried before.

My reasons for taking this option into consideration are that she has chronic

hot spots and digestion issues. We always attributed her occurrence of hot

spots to when the weather is hot because she is most uncomfortable in the heat

and her digestive issues to licking something nasty at the park. But lately I

am feeling as though perhaps we are wrong and her very nice Nutro dry and

Wellness wet foods are the culprits.

So first, are there any others who feed their dogs the BARF diet?

What lead you to this diet?

Good experiences? Bad experiences?

Did you have a personal struggle with the preparation part of the diet? She

currently eats a carnivorous diet, but its from a bag and a can, basically no

touching of dead animals or cooking involved. I don't know if I could go to the

butcher and prepare an animal for her. I love her dearly, want her to be

healthy and think I could get over it, but need some advice.

Are there any other suggestions for dogs with hot spots, aside from superficial

treatments like clipping the hair around the lesions, etc...we already to that.

More like other dietary supplements like adding Lysine, fish oils?

Thanks,

Stephanie
