Hello Everyone,

Announcing the September BAVeg Food for Thought Book Club meeting!

The Food for Thought Book Club reads nonfiction books on the topics of

vegetarianism, animal rights and nutrition. As a general guideline, everyone is

welcome to join us (both veg & non-veg) and we especially encourage aspiring and

new veg*ns to join us.

Please see details below. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP at:

http://www.bayareav eg.org/rsvp. htm?id=2053 (or reply to this email).

New members are welcome!

Our September Book Club meeting will be held on Saturday, September 19th at

12:00 p.m. in Alamo Square Park (at Hayes & Steiner) in San Francisco. We will

be meeting by the fountain facing The Painted Ladies.

The September book selection is Ethics into Action: Henry Spira and the Animal

Rights Movement by Peter Singer.

From Publishers Weekly

" The eminent philosopher of the animal rights movement skillfully profiles

pioneering animal rights activist Henry Spira, whose organization, Animal Rights

International, operating on a shoestring budget, has taken on corporate giants

like Revlon, Procter & Gamble and Perdue Farms, waging influential campaigns

against cruel animal experimentation, against the eating of meat, against the

mistreatment of animals on factory farms. "

" The strategic lessons Singer distills from Spira's career will prove

inspirational to a broad range of activists fighting many different types of

injustice. "

Picnic/Food Theme - Salads, Dips, and Desserts

-- It will be the season for fresh produce and delicious green/garden salads,

vegetable salads, fruit salads and of course there's pasta salads, bean salads

.... Or, if you're not feeling particularly inspired to craft any of these types

of foods, anything vegan is fine.

--For anyone who wants to share food, please bring a vegan food item to share

with 6 to 8 people, along with ingredient list/recipe, serving utensil, personal

beverage and everything you need to eat with.

--New to vegan food? More info. Please email organizer if you need advice or

suggestions.

--With respect for all of our animal friends, all food at BAVeg events are vegan

-- strictly plant-based, with no animal-based ingredients or by-products, such

as honey, casein, whey.

Please take some time and care with your contributions - this is about making

food to share, not picking up a bag of vegan cookies at the store.

--If you're not interested in bringing food to share, it's perfectly okay to

just come and contribute to the conversation (as long as you don't mind the rest

of us eating).

We hope you can join us!

Dana
