Guest guest
Yes, it’s human to make mistakes. However, it’s inexcusable when the campaign was systematically designed to offend, and I haven’t seen a shred of apology, even to the small group of metabolically obese vegan women, whom they may have unintentionally targeted. From the public conversations, it seems that Ingrid Newkirk didn’t even bother to consider that her message probably (if I can give her the benefit of doubt) didn’t intend to speak to all fat people. I’m also bothered by the fact that they play to stereotypes. If you’re going to shame and offend people to make a point, why not put up a billboard to shame fat men, which there are a lot more of than women? As with any person doing otherwise excellent work, when s/he does something terrible, s/he should get punished by losing supporters. It’s easy to resort to shock tactics to get on TV—it’s harder to be effective and civil. And, remember, it’s human tendency to forget the 10 great things someone has done but to remember the one bad experience. Yes, they're run by humans. does that mean we should abandon PETA, and so abandon the millions of animals whose lives they make less miserable? No.
