Here's my response to " Eating Meat Isn't Bad for the Planet, It's Our

System of Raising the Animals That's Wrong " :

 

1) about 95% of meat in the US is factory farmed

2) if there were no factory farms, at the same or similar rate of meat

consumption, livestock would take up even more land than they already do

(if all animals currently raised for meat were truly free range, we

would need additional Earths to raise them. I think Wendell Berry said

we could feed livestock or we could feed humans, but not both.)

3) it is impossible to globalize the model of the small farm

4) no matter how raised, killing animals for one's selfish pleasure is

cruel and immoral

5) no matter how raised, eating meat is unhealthy for humans

6) no matter how raised, there are serious environmental consequences to

the production of meat, including water pollution, greenhouse gas

emissions, etc.

7) just as the solution to slavery wasn't a better slave system, the

solution to factory farms isn't small farms, grass-fed cows, free range

chicken, organic meat, and so on

8) eating meat is bad for the planet regardless of the system of raising

animals
