Guest guest
Hello Tammy and SFBAVEG! I recommend: 1. The Dreaded Comparison by Marjorie Spiegel. This is by far the best book about animal exploitation I've ever read. As one reviewer put it, " Spiegel approaches the comparison between African slavery in the 18th century United States and the oppression of animals in modern-day agriculture in a sensitive, appropriate, and compelling way. This book provides further reasoning behind the interconnectedness of animal liberation and human liberation. " 2. The Revolution Will Not Be Funded, by INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence. While not specific to non-human animal advocacy, I think this book is very much appropriate given that many of us donate money to non-profit corporations. This book is a series of essays from a wide range of people with a lot of experience working in non-profit corporations. Drawing on that experience, the writers question the effectiveness 501©(3) non-profit corporation model and explore alternative forms of organizing. This book covers the commonplace phenomena of how the need to satisfy deep pocketed individual or institutional donors affects the course of advocacy by 501©(3) corporations and how the pressure to make payroll changes organizations towards fundraising and away from advocacy. You may find a PDF of an abridged version of one of the essays in the second book at: http://www.paulkivel.com/articles/socialserviceorsocialchange.pdf These books are part of a more complete reading list at http://loveallbeings.org/additional-resources/ Victor -- Veganism as Anti-Oppression: http://loveallbeings.org/
