League) AoC with activists to to protest the sale of foie gras at Chez Spencer Restaurant & Bar in San Francisco! When: Friday, July 10th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Signs and literature provided! Our last protest on May 2nd made KTVU 2 news. Please help us continue to spread the word!With it's diverse location between the Mission and Potrero Districts, we expect a good amount of foot traffic.Chez Spencer is located

at:82 14th St, San Francisco, California 94103-4230Right around the corner from Rainbow Grocery, on the same block. Foie gras, French for "fatty liver," made from the grotesquely enlarged livers

of male ducks and geese. Birds are kept in tiny wire cages or packed in

sheds, covered in their own filth. Two or three times every

day,workers shove long inflexible pipes down the ducks' throats. They

pump up to 4 pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs; the

equivalent of about 28 pounds of spaghetti in a human being.The

pipes puncture many birds' throats, sometimes causing the animals to

bleed to death. This cruel procedure causes the birds' livers to become

diseased and swell up to 10 times their normal size. Many birds become

too sick to stand up. The birds who survive the force-feeding are

killed, and their livers are sold as foie gras.Foie gras production is so cruel that it has been banned in Israel, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. In 2004, the state of California passed a law that will ban the production and sale of foie gras throughout the state by 2012.Please contact Douglass if you have any
