Guest guest
Hey all, I get these sfbayveg emails in digest form, so i just had the pleasure of reading them all at once. I never really post to this list, but finally felt compelled because of how ignorant some of these posts are about being fat and vegan, and how that somehow will cloud your message to folks. I have been vegetarian for 13 years, vegan for almost 5. By society's standards I am considered fat. I where a size 14, which many stores don't go up to. I exercise, eat healthier than most people I know, walk everywhere I go in San Francisco. But I am still a big girl. So why is that? Because I am f*@#ing Pacific Islander!!! I also have size 12 feet and am a woman. Nothing you can do about it! I could stand to lose a little weight, but really, it doesn't matter how much women in my family have dieted, we are naturally big girls. This email thread is obnoxious, and reminds me of why all my friends are shocked that I am vegan - It's not because I am fat, but because I am not a preachy and close-minded, which is so many of vegans they have encountered. Thanks to Karin, Laura and Victor for trying to be voices of reason. And Mary Anne, you are an extreme case. Your experience sounds very painful, and congratulations on the healthy life you are now leading. But you do not represent the majority of the people who are considered fat. Luckily as I am reading this I am home in Hawai'i, and surrounded by people who look like me! Take care, Lani -- " Base not your joy on the deeds of others, for what is given can be taken away.
