Oh my gosh--I just got back from dinner at ChickPea's. It's the new vegetarian falafel restaurant in Berkeley. One word: Go! They're almost completely vegan except for a couple of sauces and everything is clearly marked...the word "vegan" as well as the list of ingredients. They use organic ingredients. They use biodegradable cutlery and napkins. It's a small restaurant, but very clean and bright and comfortable. The prices are *great.* And did I mention it was dee-lish-ush?!?You can get a salad, a falafel in pita, a falafel burger, or some combo of those three things. Then you head over to the "falafel bar" and load up on all these yummy, home-made salads and dressings. Tahini (of course) was my favorite. The salads were really cool. Chickpea and kidney beans. Dilled cucumbers. Pickled cabbage with tomatoes. Marinated cauliflower with olives. Etc.We also got the soup. $4 for a really big bowl of thick, hearty chickpea-and-vegetable soup...served with a bag of pita chips! The soup alone is enough to fill you up. It was yummmmmmy. The owner, Cameron, is super nice and when I complimented the food and vegan options he asked me for feedback about his vegan choices--he really wants to make vegans happy. He definitely made this vegan happy! Tomorrow I'll check my calendar and organize a BAV group dinner to ChickPea's. I hope you can join me!
