Guest guest
Dear Fellow SFBAVEG'ers, I think Alley Cat Allies unfortunatey has it wrong regarding SB250, the bill to be voted on tommorrow that would make spaying and neutering cats and dogs (and rabbits?) mandatory, unless you pay $65 for an exemption. No one would be arrested for not having a spayed/neutered cat/dog. They would have a " fix it ticket " and be fined if they didn't comply (I think it would also be $65). It's an incentive to spay and neuter. Also, feral cats SHOULD be spayed and neutered, and there are resources to make this happen for low to no fee (such as Fix Our Ferals). I was listening to Christine Craft on Friday night and she had on the director of the Santa Cruz SPCA and the director of Monterey Animal Control. Essentially, Santa Cruz already has the same thing as SB250 and that has resulted in a situation where they NEVER have to kill animals for lack of space. Instead, they take dogs/cats from other shelters which would have had to kill them for lack of space. Best to All, Stephanie P.S. I did call Christine's show, as she asked me to, and told the audience about the budget plan to cut time until killing shelter animals from 6 days to 72 hours. I hope this results in more protest about this.
