Guest guest
Their food usually consists of: home made soup and a fresh green garden salad served with Bread. At times the produce are organic greens freshly donated by a local farmer’s market. Unlimited portions to hungry public. == Warning long email, a few repeats, but not much: Soup Stock '09 -- Food Not Bombs free concert and conference May 24 & 23 'Food Not Bombs' is a network of autonomous chapters, across the world, that collect free food from grocery stores, bakeries, farmers markets etc... and transport it to a place where we cook it into nutritious vegan food and serve it to hungry people. 'Soup Stock' is our festival style free concert the park, with music and free food. This is a resurrection of the concerts they had in the 90's to draw attention to the inequity of the food supply. The free outdoor concert is Sunday May 24th in the amphitheater in McLaren Park, Noon to 7pm. This year we are also having a 'Convergence Conference' for all grass roots groups working towards sustainable alternatives; with the simple premise: " Interconnectivity will help each of us. Coming together to share knowledge and enthusiasm will strengthen our community of activism. " We will come together to talk and share; there will be a few keynote speakers and a couple of skill shares and a lot of spontaneous conversation. The Convergence Conference will be Saturday May 23rd from 10am til 6pm. The Last Soupstock in SF was in 2000 and was huge Visit soupstock.org for more information and photos of 2000's SoupStock. Please come and be a part of this one. We are hoping to bring people in from all over the state and from different groups to teach each other, learn from each other and co-create some momentum for our movement towards actual sustainability that is both environmentally conscious and socially equitable. The idea of free food as a step towards equality and how equality is the first step towards peace. There will be several excellent local bands; varying in genre from punk-rock to folk music and hip hop, otherwise and in between; and possibly a special guest ????????? Lineup of bands so far in no particular order: Shelly Doty, Rebecca Cross and the Saints, Mama Crow, Ottomobile... Full line up to be announced soon. There will also be speakers between the bands talking about the Food Justice movements and some History of other movements that are a part of local San Francisco culture. We are still looking for a few more speakers during the concert, if you have people in mind that you know would or may speak on pertinent topics please contact < carling (AT) riseup (DOT) net > There will be some tables set up for literature from various groups with pertinent interests and ideologies. There will also be some spoken word and poetry that speaks to the desire to co-create a better future than the one we are inheriting. There will be clowns too. There will also be a childcare collective, providing safe, responsible and experienced free child care at the concert with interactive games that teach children about food and farming as well as other activities. We are excited about utilizing McLaren Park in the spirit of using resources that are underutilized. This park is huge and in the south part of the city yet many people do not know where it is. Free food. This has a open invitation to those who are part of inspiring projects and movements. We want to talk about what we are learning and doing in to a context of how Food Not Bombs and Food Justice fits into the bigger picture for social change and how conservation and sharing are corner stones to the change that is needed. This is a call out to peoples and groups to come together to talk and share and cooperate and communicate and synchronize our energy into synergy, or at least learn what each other is doing and how we can help other in making the world a better place. We are also planning to compile a small book/zine of pertinent information on solutions to saving the Planet from us and how to protect each other from ourselves. If you come please bring the finished 5 page submission: ideas ranging from sustainable technologies and practices to radical political theory and historical lessons... Imagine how much info you could convey with 5 pages of succinct paragraphs and websites, some artwork a poetry welcome. We are inviting people who will add to the body of knowledge and be a part of the spectrum of perspective needed to see how " We can all work together; as we can do more together, than any of us can do on our own. " We will formulate new ideas about how to help serve our own individual communities. Food Not Bombs is a crucial element in demonstrating our ability to take care of each other and taking control of flawed system that wastes more than is needed. With out the mega-corporations ability to create poverty on lands of bounty they would not be rich because we would not be poor; and when we can fulfill our own needs they will have no power. But right now they have the power to starve nations in order to steal their resources and pollute the Earth in the process. Now is the time to rise up and take back the wealth of the land and we are starting with taking back the 'garbage' and sharing it and living off of it in better health than the trash that is sold as fastfood. If you are interested in being a part of the Convergence concert please Contact: William soupstock09 Diamond Dave Whitaker 514-240-0286 dmndv (AT) hotmail (DOT) com visit our website soupstock.org Visit the san francisco web site << sffnb.org All donations of food from grocery stores and bakeries and restaurants ect... to be picked up on Friday May 22nd. We also need some good transportation to help move large amounts of food around the city from donation point to kitchens to park, any car would help a van would be great; bicycles are our normal solution but this scale necessitates an automobile; any volunteers??? We need to send a mass E-mail letter to list and friends, as advertisements for papers and web-sites. We need to send out the invitation to student groups all across the state and beyond. and to the groups whom we want to play some part in this, we need them to contact us with questions and an outline of what it is your group does and what you want to do or bring to the conference of concert. We are exploring different methods of Green Energy to power the sound systems for the bands; if anybody knows of more people or resources that might help please put the word out and let us know. The Bicycle coalition is going to handle the bike parking as they have in the past. And Finally we are planning on this years Soupstock being the resurrection of Soupstock and a template for the 30th anniversary of Food Not Bombs next year, where we are hoping there will be a soupstock in the Thousand cities across the world; and thus we are wanting to document the particulars of this years event. We are wanting to put together a documentation team, to both record the bureaucratic and logistical hurdles and the actual events. We are hoping that it will help people in the future in planning similar events and be a source of continual inspiration for people. >>> So please come, think of what you want out of it and what you want to share, communicate, interact, contact us, visit soupstock.org Spread the word. (help the bicycle industry not the car industry) It was very clear American Auto makers were making inefficient SUVs/CARs that ONLY the American Market wanted. Everyone knew it, but profits speaks louder than words and/or reason.
