Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who responded about soymilk makers. Results: SoyaJoy was the unanimous favorite, getting 4 out of 4 recommendations, and I plan to buy one. SoyQuick, SoyToy, and Soybella were not mentioned. (For the record, I used to own a SoyToy. It worked but was persnickety -- not dishwasher-safe, not immersible, required manual straining -- and the motor just stopped after a few months. I didn't mention this initially as I didn't want to skew results.) Verbatim replies and original inquiry follow. Thanks again! Rebecca Thomas Vegan mother of two Palo Alto Verbatim replies, starting with the most detailed: I have been using the SoyaJoy for several years now and have found it to work very well. It's easy to use, takes about 20-25 minutes to make soy milk, is easy to clean and sturdy. I haven't used it to make other nut milks so cannot comment on that. I keep it below the countertop - it's light. But it's not too big for the countertop either. I use it to make soy milk every week or two, have had it for maybe 4 or 5 years. I bought it online from the Soyajoy website, I believe. I think it was around $150. It makes about 1 1/2 quarts of soy milk in each batch. The only annoying feature is the noise it makes while grinding the soybeans, but I imagine that would be true of any such machine. I've never used another one so cannot compare. It definitely beats buying soy milk in those non-recyclable containers! --- my friend and i bought a USED one, now we sold it and don't have it anymore we don't drink that much soy any more we do almond nut milk now * SoyaJoy (www.soymilkmaker.com) the soy container is small, but you'll realize you don't need that much beans to make soy takes 10cents to make a gal --- i have a few from soymilmaker.com and use them all the time and they work great. been using them for many years, now works great for soy but not so great for rice or oats. --- I have the SoyaPower, and it's quite good. I see they also have a new SoyaPower Plus model. I usually use a mixture of soybeans, brown rice and almonds. http://www.soymilkmaker.com/ On Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 8:17 PM, Rebecca T <rcu> wrote: > Dear Bay Area veg*ns, > > I'm interested in making my own soymilk and trying my hand at making > tofu at home.
