Guest guest
Hi all: Tammy gave a great answer to Susan's very sincere question. I would only add that I have many reasons for advocating a plant-based diet including ecological(global warming emmissions, ground water), personal health (cholesterol, hormones, antibiotics), human hunger issues (10 lbs of grain to make 1 lb of meat) as well as compassion for the animals. Thx for a good discussion. -t
Guest guest
Thanks, Terry! I think your response/experience regarding "many reasons for advocating a plant-based diet .. ecological .. personal health .. human hunger issues .. compassion for the animals" will resonate with many. I know that while I certainly started for ethical reasons, but now that I am older, I also appreciate the environmental and health aspects as well and consider those a great bonus for being vegan. So, I'm just happy whenever I hear of someone going veg(an), whatever their reasons. Just from the informal, anecdotal responses I've gotten over the years from people who have approached me while doing tabling outreach and say "I used to be veg(an)", I do think that people who go veg for ethical reasons are more likely to stick with it. Vegans in particular need to be really stubborn people :-) Tammy My two cents, vegan-style .. - today or read it on GenerationV.org Don't miss out on these awesome Bay Area Vegetarians events! 04/11 Animal Place Farm Tour and Vegan Food Picnic - Vacaville 05/02 Have a Heart, Go Veg Leafleting & Lunch - SF 05/03 Food for Thought Book Club: Animals Rights Philosophy & Picnic - SF 05/30 Veg Outreach & Education at Maker Faire - San Mateo County Fairgrounds
