Guest guest
Hi All, Did anyone else see the story on KTVU-2 tonight about the four activists in the Bay Area who were arrested under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act?: http://www.ktvu.com/news/18762536/detail.html After reading the counts against them, I agree that trying to force their way into a researcher's home was perhaps misguided, but demonstrations and a flyer left in a cafe? Acts of terrorism? Is this disturbing to anyone else? Andrea San Francisco
Guest guest
I missed the news today. Thanks for sharing the story, Andrea. While I personally would not engage in these tactics, and question their effectiveness, I wouldn't consider them terrorism, either. I just don't think tactics that are based on fear or intimidation will ever result in positive, long-lasting change in attiudes towards recognizing animals and animal rights. In the short run, maybe some will leave vivisection/research but would that experience have convinced them to denounce the validity of the animal research model and using animals? Somehow, I'm not convinced.. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times. - Isaac Bashevis Singer
Guest guest
Andrea, Every government that wants to expand beyond its legal limits needs to justify that expansion. One tactic is to identify " dangerous " groups and get everyone else to agree that the normal law enforcement is not adequate for those groups. You have been chosen. After all, " We must protect the food supply. " The best reference for this is Naomi Wolf, " The End of America " . She specifically mentions the AETA. Don't worry, she is a loyal Democrat, not a whacko. Animal Rights activists need to partner with with ACLU, the American Fredom Campaign. the Campaign for Liberty, the Libertarian Party, and anyone else who beleives that the Bill of Rights still matters. see http://naomiwolf.org Brian Darby Chair Libertarian Party of Santa Clara County scclp.org , " jaigopalkaur " <jaigopalkaur wrote: > Did anyone else see the story on KTVU-2 tonight about the four > activists in the Bay Area who were arrested under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act > > Is this disturbing to anyone else? >
