Guest guest
My husband and I saw this little dog named " Arkin " listed on Petfinder by Doggie Protective Services (DPS): http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12872464 We saw that he was going to be at a DPS adoption fair at the local PetSmart in Mountain View. So, we went to meet him and of course fell in love. But, we wanted to think it over a little more since adopting a dog is such a big decision. According to the listing, Arkin is being fostered at a home in nearby Palo Alto--so we could make arrangements to meet him again. However, when we contacted DPS today, we were told he--along with all the other dogs at the fair--is on his way to Las Vegas and that the only way we could see him again would be to attend another adoption fair. We talked to the woman who runs the rescue at the adoption fair, and we had a strange feeling from this woman. Although their website, adoption form, etc. indicates that she runs a rescue that evaluates potential homes, she allowed people to walk out with dogs on the spot. This seemed exceptionally strange and disconcerting--Why would a reputable rescue group be putting the dogs under the stress of traveling to another adoption fair so far away? It turns out she's listing the same animals as living in different places. For example, the dog we were interested in, Arkin, is also in Las Vegas: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12908060 We noticed another one of DPS dogs, Rusty, is in two different locations. And, unfortunately, there are more examples than this: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12722887 http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12723173 We searched online for more information about DPS, and we were both disturbed by what we found. The woman who runs DPS, Tera McCurry, has been accused of fraud and animal abuse. The links below reveal her unscrupulous methods: http://www.pe.com/localnews/corona/stories/PE_News_Local_D_petrescue25.3ab5a4c.h\ t ml http://www.ashleyandhobie.com/board/viewtopic.php? t=8594 & sid=0e26c542ec4208ff152c3452bf0dc9ba Of course, I suppose we can't say that this woman has not helped some animals find homes. But, given this additional info we found online that is supposedly from former volunteers, we wanted to share this with the veg community so you can be informed if you are looking for a dog and can draw your own conclusions. We are all animal lovers, and it really upset us to see that this woman is potentially exploiting these poor dogs to line her own wallet. Thanks, Kristin
