Harris Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : LowCal (Less than 300 calories LowerCarbs Vegan Veggie Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/2 cup cayenne pepper 2 tablespoons cumin 1 tablespoon caraway seeds 1 tablespoon coriander seeds 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil Place the cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Place the remaining seasonings in the bowl of a spice mill and pulse until you have a fine powder. Add the powder to the cayenne pepper and drizzle in the olive oil, stirring constantly, until you have a thick paste. Place the harissa in a small jar and float a layer of olive oil on the top. Refrigerate. Use sparingly. Makes 3/4 cup. " Harissa is considered to be the national condiment of Tunisia. One cosmopolitan friend of mine so craves it that she begs for a 'care package' of it when she cannot find it in her local supermarket. This quick version is most assuredly not authentic, but it will do in a pinch if you don't have time to prepare a batch of the real thing.
