Guest guest Posted November 10, 2009 Report Share Posted November 10, 2009 BLACK BEAN CHILI BURGERS 1 tbs chili powder 1 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1 package veg ground round, or thawed crumbles or a cup of reconstituted TVP 15.5 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed 1/2 cup minced brown or red onion 1/3 cup + 3 tbs mild, medium or hot salsa of choice 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 6 multigrain seeded hamburger buns 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1 avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced Heat pan. Combine chili powder, garlic powder, and cumin in a skillet. Cook 2 min. or until fragrant. Remove from heat. In a bowl, stir together the veg ground round or TVP, beans, spice mixture, onion, 1/3 cup salsa, salt and pepper. Transfer to food processor and pulse until texture is slightly smooth and half of the beans have been mashed. Return to bowl and divide into 6 hamburger patties. Coat burgers with oil or cooking spray. Cook 3-4 min. then flip over and cook another 3-4 min. or until 140 degrees on an thermometer. Toast buns under broiler 3 min. turning once. In a bowl, stir together remaining salsa and the mayonnaise. Spread each bun with some of the salsa mayo. Add a burger and a few avocado slices and serve.
