Hmm. . . . Here are a couple of things (I'll put the second one in another post) that are almost certain to be at our after-ritual potluck at Samhain (Oct. 31). Apples ar e a sacred symbol in our faith, and apple dishes are traditional at Samhain as an offering to the Gods, so the following will be in the punchbowl and possibly also in the chalice. We're an alcohol-free circle, but if you want to add brandy, I won't tell anybody. -Begin Recipe Export- QBook version 1.00.14 Title: CIDER CHAI Keywords: beverages, fruit, hollidays 2 qt. unpasteurized (i.e.whole) apple cider 2 cups strong tea, best you can afford 1 tsp. whole cloves 1 tsp. whole allspice half a nutmeg (un-grated) 1 tsp. cardamom seeds, lightly cracked if desired but nor powdered two 3-inch cinnamon sticks (don't use powder!) 1/2 to 1 tsp. black pepper, preferably whole One to five split, seeded hot red chiles [OPTIONAL] 1/2 c. lightly packed brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla A few grains of salt Raisins orange sections skewers or sassafras twigs Bring all but the tea, raisins and orange segments to a boil in a large kettle.
