Hi gang,

Thank you very much - love

too! But wait, see below . . .

>i am always tickled when i read the intro

questionnaire posts >and see how your group gets

more non-veggie folks who just >want our good

spicy recipes and side-dish ideas.

Well, non-veggies have always been welcome - with

the proviso (and I'm kinda strict on this, sorry

to say to those who would disagree) that they do

not under any circumstances, by any word or

suggestion, do anything that is unsupportive of

vegetarianism - including mentioning meat

unnecessarily. I'm a demon about that LOL

Otherwise, all are welcome.

>Talk about witnessin', eh?

Hon, please help me out here. I'm just a

'furriner' to you guys, and I honestly don't know

the word 'witnessing'. What does that mean. Where

does the expression come from? etc. I understand

it's a religious concept (not totally stoopid,

me) but . . . ??? Help, please, before I make an

idjut of myself in some other venue as well as

this one :=(

>Awesome way to convert folks or at least open

their minds to another way of livin' GOOD. :)

Good grief, is that what I'm doing????? Holy

shmoley!!! No, my agenda is quite different. I

don't have a missionary intent at all. I promise.

:=) *EXCEPT* that I'd like to persuade current

vegetarians (including vegans of course of

course) that sometimes it's a good idea to look

to other cultures who have traditionally been

vegetarian (or near-vegetarian) for new and

different ways of preparing their meals. I like

*spicy* asian food (although my first veggie

'teachers' were cantonese chefs), so 'vegetarian

spice' became an obvious theme.

But fill me in on this witnessin' thingie,

please. Ya never know, I might like the idea!

Best love and so many many thanks for your kind

words. (PT is the bestest!)

--- Pat,

I almost " cringe " answering your question about " witnessing " . it is

normally used as a religious term meaning to tell someone else about

your faith in hopes of 'converting " them to your religion--in this

sense it's generally conversion to Christianity. I grew up

being " witnessed " to and detested it so I have a very negative

connotation of it despite identifying myself as a traditional

conservative Christian. I don't mind sharing what I believe and why

BUT (and this is a very big but) I am not remotely confrontational or

an in-your-face-type of person.

now I suppose you could use the term " witnessing " in a loose sense of

trying to convert people to vegetarianism but most people associate it

with Christianity so you might get a few weird looks : ). take

care : )............

Ouch. Sorry :=(

Okay, got it. So it's *not* teaching or

'converting' by example? But by actually

*telling* people about, in the original sense,

one's religion? Glad I asked - cuz my guess would

have been quite wrong. Thanks a bunch for that.

And yes, I see the application to the, er,

vegetarian religion/cause LOL Cute. But no, I

don't really do that. I guess I just haven't got

that kind of mindset - I will answer questions,

etc., but I don't think of myself as going out of

my way to tell people they should be vegetarians.

Of course, on a vegetarian list one supports

vegetarianism - and that *sometimes* means

telling non-vegetarians on the list that they'd

be healthier as vegetarians and that it'd be

healthier for the animals too. (So maybe I do it

a bit after all. Ouch.) That's usually *meant* to

let everyone know that it is the *vegetarians*

who are being supported on my list/s, not the

carnivores :=) but what I *mean* doesn't matter -

it's the result that matters and, yeah, I guess I

'witness'. <avoids weird look from

noncomprehending eavesdropper>

Big hugs, big thanks. And apologies to PT for not

'getting' it the first time round.

Best love, Pat
