Guest guest
Thank you, Donna. Now, I need to find nutritional yeast somewhere...we went to the pathetic excuse of a health foods store in Augusta last Saturday and were very unimpressed. Not much stuff and what's there is extremely high priced; even more so than the organic sections in Krogers and Publix! Now...THAT's BAD, chitlin's! <g> Over the last few days as I've educated myself and dh right into veganry (is that a word? it is now, ha ha), I've found some great vegan places online. My current favorite is Pangea, but its website is not called that, it's called: vwww.veganstore.com <http://vwww.veganstore.com>, I think. Not totally sure of that URL. Anyway, you can do a search and it'll come up. They have not only food, like vegan marshmallows (hip hip, hooray!), but really pretty women's shoes at comparable and cheaper prices, with imitation suede and in lovely colors. Blue, red, moss green, cocoa brown, on and on...wow, I am so happy about this! Here are a few other neat places I've found and that have helped to 'bring me to enlightenment' concerning the vegan lifestyle: www.vegsource.com <http://www.vegsource.com> www.eatveg.com <http://www.eatveg.com> the aforementioned www.healthy-eating.com <http://www.healthy-eating.com>(there's a story behind that I want to tell y'all a bit later) www.brook.com/veg <http://www.brook.com/veg> www.vegparadise.com <http://www.vegparadise.com> (a really great site that explains EVERYTHING you need to know about " why vegan " ? and has wonderful recipes, a lady doing a diabetic blog that encourages me as a diabetic tremendously, book reviews, food reviews, etc. etc.) www.famousveggie.com <http://www.famousveggie.com> -- famous vegetarians and vegans www.forvegetarian.com <http://www.forvegetarian.com> www.allveganshopping.com <http://www.allveganshopping.com> www.SociallyResponsible.Org <http://www.SociallyResponsible.Org> www.vegsource.com <http://www.vegsource.com> has great recipes, commentary, book reviews, on and on www.VeganEssentials.com <http://www.VeganEssentials.com> For foods, here we have: www.neworganics.com <http://www.neworganics.com> www.naturespath.com <http://www.naturespath.com> www.chreese.com <http://www.chreese.com> www.TheHempNut.com <http://www.TheHempNut.com> www.BetterThanMilk.com <http://www.BetterThanMilk.com>, and also the www.NotMilk.com <http://www.NotMilk.com> site, which has a huge group of over 8,000 people on --whoa, you'll REALLY get your eyes open here, believe you me! LOTS of really damning evidence that dairy is soo bad for the human body on their 'front page'. www.theorganicgardenfood.com <http://www.theorganicgardenfood.com> www.organicfoodstore.com <http://www.organicfoodstore.com> www.NowandZen.com <http://www.NowandZen.com> www.wholesoycom.com <http://www.wholesoycom.com> www.dixiediner.com <http://www.dixiediner.com> I also found out that there is a newsgroup for vegans, haven't yet checked it out but plan to this very morning: alt.food.vegan. Hope to join this one! And a place where there are actually sensible doctors who understand vegan and vegetarian are the best way to go: www.PCRM.com <http://www.PCRM.com> Probably all y'all oldtimers know all these sites, but us newbies will really welcome this information. Some of it makes you cry though; be forewarned...for the animals' sake! Hope this inspires, it certainly has me and my dh-- Bron and for recipes, here's a few great places too: www.abbeysvegetarianrecipes.com <http://www.abbeysvegetarianrecipes.com>(vegan) www.ashycook.topcities.com <http://www.ashycook.topcities.com> www.vegkitchen.com <http://www.vegkitchen.com> www.smoothieresearch.org <http://www.smoothieresearch.org> www.veganchef.com <http://www.veganchef.com> www.veganing.htm <http://www.veganing.htm> www.veggiechef.com <http://www.veggiechef.com> www.vrg.org <http://www.vrg.org> www.vegweb.com <http://www.vegweb.com> --this place is great, has critiques of recipes by informal testers, has tons of 'remade' vegan recipes...for example they have a recipe for gingerbread men and one for rolled out sugar cookies that I plan to make this year, redoing my old recipes basically. I am so thrilled I don't have to give up my old traditions! Woo hoo! Check out this place for humorous answers to people who ask stupid questions about being vegan/vegetarian: (who are obviously not wanting to learn, but just to be mean and ugly) www.veganstreet.com <http://www.veganstreet.com> And go here to find out where local CSA farms and coops are: www.LocalHarvest.com <http://www.LocalHarvest.com> (There are TWO in our area! just over the border in South Carolina) And there is a coop right here in Augusta, yay!
