I have never heard of dengue but thankfully you are well now.

I too feel your vegetarian diet helped pull you through.

speaking of feeling better, how about talking about our immune

system? when i was a meat-eater, i used to get the flu approx.

6x/yr. now i only do about 2-3x/yr.

but the most remarkable was when i got dengue early this year (i'm a

filipino in the philippines, just in case some of you might worry

that you will get it). dengue hemorrhagic fever is where the quality

and quantity of platelets deteriorate, so the patient has a chance

of bleeding to death. the early management is just fluids and

observation. but i will tell you that it is the worst that i felt! i

had to check my platelets twice a day. if it falls below 150,000, i

will be admitted to a hospital. my attending and i agreed to that,

because 150k is the low normal value. it really was dengue because

my platelets show that my numbers were falling every 12hrs, but

never below 200k. i was actually in so much pain that i wanted to be

admitted, until that evening's platelet count showed my count was

beginning to increase. my attending (and based on my experience,

too), we haven't encountered that sort of case where you had dengue

but your platelets don't fall below normal.

now i don't know if that's attributed to my immune system/being

vegetarian. but it's a good story to brag to meat-eaters. ;-)

working towards it. She talks about how much better she feels when

she's been to my house several days in a row and eats pretty much

nothing but veggie food that I've fixed. Also, she talks about how

she has started to get sick when she eats meat.
