Guest guest
Here LA it's veggie haven so I don't have this problem very often. If it's a party I makw sure I bring a dish I can eat also, if not I eat something ahead of time and I always have a banana in my purse just incase. Now it seems out here there's always a choice of dishes for company Christmas parties, etc. it's very accepted when someone wants a vegetarian meal so usually a buffet will have items for non-meateaters. I know my friend in Iowa doesn't have it easy when she's invited to events and if she mentions being a vegetarian then several people will make rude remarks to her so she finds herself not attending many functions. The good thing is, she is raising her 15 yr old niece and she has never eaten meat. The many of teens in school are very supportive so it's catching on with the younger generation. M nephew is in college and all his buddies come over and they love everything I cook and 2 of the guys are vegetarian so out of 15 college guys that makes 3 vegetarians counting my nephew. That's a good percentage............Donna kabibe_md <hey_soleil wrote: hi guys! i was wondering how you guys handle a situation like this: you go to a party hosted by someone you don't know. when you get there, there is absolutely no vegetarian dish in sight! how do you handle this? if it's a large crowd for me, it's fine. i just blend in, maybe just have some dessert, then i just load up after the party. but if it's a sit-down dinner, i don't know how! here in my country, it's still considered " rude " to tell them i am a vegetarian and not eat. people will have negative impressions of me and the people i'm with if i ask them to cook a veggie dish. so sometimes i find myself " cheating. " i hate it. i don't want to compromise just because it's " polite " that i'm not eating meat. i don't understand why they would excuse muslims for not eating meat, but not a catholic vegetarian. so sometimes, if i can get away with it, i just pick out the vegetables from the dishes so that they can see that i am eating something. how do you guys do it? do you cheat, too? -zoe
