My posted recipe, are not gooey and they form a crunchy top. Now the peppers you can grind in the food processor but you might have the heat stay in the plastic and you just can't get it out. I'd make a Kunp Pao tofu. or something like that. I'll send a recipe but I haven't tried it. MY sister cooks very hot food so I can ask her if she has one to post the group. You usually can't grind these peppers in in the mortar or pestle since the skin has a rubbery texture. Don't toss the dried chestnuts either. Remember being a vegetarian now you have to experiment and that means being creative and we can always find a recipe if you have the ingredient..LOL Simply soak the chestnuts overnight in room temp water. The nest day simmer for 15 mins. on the stove. Then toss them into soup. You can make a very simple Chinese vegetable soup with them.. If you like I can send you a recipe for Chinese vegetable soup.
