Guest guest
kids and spent Saturday cleaning out cupboards and organizing them. we found some stuff that we don't know what to do with--dried chestnuts and dried Chinese hot peppers. can the chili peppers be ground into some kind of seasoning--I think I bought them for kung po meat-based dish but that's not an option now. chestnuts have directions on how to re-hydrate but I can't read Chinese : ). any ideas on what to use them for or do I just toss'em ? kids found a PETA booklet with some pictures in it and decided meat is nasty : ). they finally made the meat-to-plate connection. I explained sometimes that it is hard to do that because the meat in the grocery store rarely looks like the animal it came from. I assured them there are plenty of alternatives to the few meat-based things they like if they want to grocery shop with me sometime. they are very excited : ). we will likely be packing lunches also now : ). they enjoyed the TVP tacos I think that are in the Files-- even our newly 9-year-old who has severe texture issues with food. we used the leftover TVP with the Simple sauce in Files to make a cheater's lasagna for supper. I have neve seen the kids eat so much at one sitting : ). we baked a brownie recipe from one of the Moosewood cookbooks and wow were they fantastic and gooey. I will check to see if it is in the Files and if not post them. kids are still drooling over them : )......take care : )............
