Guest guest
I would make the chili and add one cup of TVP reconstituted during the last couple of hours of cooking or you could toss 1 - 2 cups of the frozen crumbles in. Should work just fine. You are already used to this chili having meat in it so for sure I would use a substitute. Hope this helped......Donna , ranmalover2005@a... wrote: > > this is pretty straight foward and simple was wondering how to make it a veggie dish. i could try a different recipe all together but trying to stick with what i know already. not sure if i should just add more and different types of beans or just use a meat alternative. > > 5 lbs ground beef or turky (i use 2/3 lb respectively) > 2 large onions > 3 clove garlics > 2 habanero peppers > 5 jalapeno peppers > 2 lbs kidney beans > 2 cans of diced tomato or equivalent fresh > 1 1/2 cup chili powder > 2 tablespoons cumin > GUINESS beer > > prepare beans by doing the quick soak method on pkg. > fry meat with onions and garlic and drain. > place meat and beans in 6 qt. crockpot. > slice habanero and jalapeno with gloves on and add to pot. > add tomato and spices to pot. > add enough GUINESS beer to cover the rest of the ingredients (usually takes about 3 16 oz cans) > > cook on low for 12 - 16 hours. i use it for main course as well as serve it with nachos. > > thanks for any and all help with this. > > matt > > > > purplepassion <thelilacflower> > > Tue, 18 Oct 2005 19:12:36 -0700 (PDT) > Re: I'm in the mood for...... Guest guest
Interesting about the beer ingredient! I wonder if that is good only in carnivore's chili? What kind of a flavor does it add? -Craige > ranmalover2005@a... wrote: > > > > GUINESS beer > > > > prepare beans by doing the quick soak method on pkg. > > fry meat with onions and garlic and drain. > > place meat and beans in 6 qt. crockpot. > > slice habanero and jalapeno with gloves on and add to pot. > > add tomato and spices to pot. > > add enough GUINESS beer to cover the rest of the ingredients > (usually takes about 3 16 oz cans) > >
Guest guest
the beer ingredient to me makes a big difference in the flavor but it has to be a dark beer so it has all those flavors that they include. you want the bitterest darkest beer you can get from my experience since they have the most molasses(i think thats what it is) in the cooking. when i tested it using a light beer it was almost the same as using water. i just cannot describe the flavor it adds cause its many combined. I do not know how it would work in a veggie version in fact never thought about that making a difference. guess i am gonna havto do some testing. matt Craige Moore <craige.moore Interesting about the beer ingredient!
