Hope our group will help you in your transition to vegetarianism. I never have

a problem with someone trying to serve meat to me. I make sure I ask if there

is a side dish I can bring. I explain I'm a vegetarian and there isn't a need

to prepare anything special. This way there is usually bread, potatoes, salad,

veggie dish or plenty of options to place on my plate. I always want guests to

let me know if they are allergic to anything or have a sugar resiticted diet,

etc.

I will say I ate at the home of an Egyptian family and I was looking for Fido

under their table. If it wasn't meat it was so spicy I couldn't swallow it.....

Hi -- This is Derek in Virginia, a new member to the group. I am actually not

veggie full time, although I aspire to be. I usually eat what's served to me

when visiting socially, even if it includes animal protein. Perhaps I should

make the statement of not eating meat when it's served to me, but I'm conflicted

-- in some cultures it's not acceptable to turn down what one is served when a

guest in the home of another; however, there are some foods I can't tolerate

(don't like, can't stand) that I have to admit I wouldn't be prepared to eat if

served to me. Most of these are animal foods; primarily seafoods --

particularly shellfish (I admit there are plant-based foods I won't eat either,

such as okra or tempeh). Anyway, I'm glad to have found this group, look

forward to trying the mouth-watering sounding recipes I've seen in messages so

far, and perhaps come to a decision to go veggie full-time. Also, I plan to

submit some recipes shortly.
