Guest guest
You can toss a little liquid smoke in with your pintos or even with your greens when cooking. Will add the ham type flavoring. I use kombu (dried seaweed found in Asian stores) for my beans. I also use cumin (ground) along with onions and garlic with my pintos or I will toss them in the crockpot along with a can of Mexican style stewed tomatoes. Donnababsyjean wrote: Hi! I am having trouble in figuring out what to season my foods with. Like pintos? Guest guest
Liquid smoke is great and have used it over in the lentil loaf recipe (in the files). However, be sure not to add too much, the first time I used it I over did it and boy was that dinner salty!! I also add cumin to almost everything I cook. And lately I've been adding tumeric. I add these spices as I saute the onions, just when they are getting translucent. Then I add my other ingredients. It gives that kind of a smokey flavoring. You can try some soy based bacon bits (like you toss on salads) but read the ingredients to make sure they are vegetarian. > Donna
