Guest guest
My neighbor has strawberries and tomatoes in containers. I have lavender, basil and chives. My brother-in-law has several chili peppers growning in small pots. I had good luck with tomatoes until a bright green bug ate them. We are shortly to move to a new apartment > that has a spacious screened porch/patio, and I am thinking seriously > of trying to grow 'maters, peppers, and such like in big pots.> Thanks for any help--Bron, I have grown some but this was only my second summer attemptingit, and it was quite disrupted by the move, which I knew about, so Ionly planted herbs this year. But last year I had tomatoes & peppers.Be careful which varieties you get, as the plants I picked up at thelocal Home Dpot were more tolerant of cooler areas than Jax was! Theydidn't do well at all. I planted some others though, and gottomatoes... if you eat eggs, crush your egg shells and put them in thedirt around th tomatoes, as well as coffee grounds/leftover coffee. Peppers liked the direct sun better than the tomatoes, but that was inFL where direct sun last many hours a day, so you'll have toexperiment with it.I don't know if this true, but it seemed to me that if the porch wasscreened, it was hard for pollinators to get in... so I did someflower shaking, on recommendations for the organichomesteading list. I think the conversation actually started a bit ago with containercrops, and I had recommended a book (not entirely organic butlots ofgreat info) Bountiful Container, which I have, and posted aboutanother that also had high reviews at Amazon, that I hope to get.
