Guest guest
--- Jenn, I really like where we live but it is hard at times to find different things for recipes. Our local grocery store sells tofu- pork hotdogs : ). It kind of defeats the purpose for both meat- eaters and veggies. My very best bet there is frozen veggies on sale- -all else does not exist. I am anxious to see my new cardiologist in October as he is in Des Moines and they have some wonderful-sounding healthfood stores. I plan on saving my pennies to stock up when I go down : ). But I don't mind driving to the little family farms for foodstuffs--it is so much fun supporting the " smaller " people than larger corporations. The only big drawbacks to living here are the hog confinements that we encounter on the way to school. The smell and sight is overwhelming to say the least. It is hard living in an area where hogs, cattle, and farming are huge business. Even when I was a non- veggie, it was still hard to watch. My reasons for veggie life are varied and numerous but animal confinements are a biggie. My other reasons for choosing to be a vegetarian include: 1. I believe we as humans were intended to be veggies. when doing a Bible study of Genesis, we were to eat a plant-based diet and were to be stewards towards animals--not kill them. but because of sin death happened and eating animals became " normal " even though it was not the original intent for us. so there's my theological bent : ). 2. walking on the nature trail past fields of cattle was enlightening. the calves run like our dog and have the same eyes as our dog and I just couldn't fathom eating them anymore. 3. sitting in your car at a stoplight and seeing a semi-trailer carrying hogs to the slaughterhouse and they are utterly crammed and squealing in there. 4. health reasons--having been born with multiple heart defects, including missing some coronary arteries--I can't afford to clog the ones I have : ). I also prefer veggie stuff--it's much easier on my stomach and texture is better--plus you don't really have to worry about cross-contamination. And I really just hate meat for the most part--I don't like smelling it, touching it, etc. I have tried to make myself a omnivore for the past 9 years and have utterly hated it. so no more : ) and it was easier than I thought it would be : ). now that everyone is bored to tears with my reasons for going veg, what are your reasons????????
