Guest guest
Not to get a fight going on this list which is not devoted to dog food, but... When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, we went to the vet school oncology department. I specifically asked about pet food and which was the best. My oncologist went and asked a world famous animal nutritionist in the school about food. The response of the doctor was that he would not say, as any actively researching scientist could not afford to offend any one pet food company by saying one product was better due to the loss of research funding. While a totally lousy reason, as a scientist, I understand. Therefore, reader be ware about dog food info on the internet... High quality dog food is obviously better than Wal Mart brand. Is veggie better for dogs? Just like people veggie diets, it depends on what you eat. As a biologist, I know that dogs are mainly carnivores (how many apples do you see wolves eating?) but will eat plant material to survive. Cats only eat meat, which is why you can't feed dog food to cats, it's not high enough in some amino acids. Some vets, one of mine, thinks that organic dog food is silly, another one of my general vets thinks Solid Gold is great. I know my dog's sneezing has decreased since the switch and he likes it better than dog chow. I just like the idea of real meat, not biproducts, and healthy veggie products in his food- I'll never switch back. But, to each his own. If veggie dog food is well balanced and bioavailable, well.... I grew up on a farm where animals had a purpose, lunch. I eat mainly veggie but love ethnic food so still eat meat so that I can maintane my culinary diversity. Many on this list are most likely appalled by this but no matter. To each their own opinion as long as they are not a hypocrit... Mainly, as long as the dog is healthy, well treated and loved, does it much matter?
