Guest guest
Although I've been on this list for a while, I have not made anything yet although collected a heap of recipes that look good. But I do have a completely silly question as I'm not so skilled in cooking. I read in back questions that steamed tofu was the best way to go as far as a substitute for tuna. My silly question is this. Is steaming the same thing as boiling or is it just heating the tofu at a lower temperature? And as far as baking tofu goes, is there any seasonings that you put in to make it taste ok (like if it calls for tofu in a recipe) or do you just throw the tofu in a baking dish and bake at about 350? sorry for the crazy questions, but I'm just wondering as I am hearing about all the crazy things you can do with tofu but I want to make sure I am doing them right:) Thanks
Guest guest
I have never steamed tofu myself, but when I steam veggies it means putting the veggies into a metal colander in a pot of water and boil the water. The steam rises from the boiling water and heats the veggies. The water should not rise above the bottom of the colander, because if it does, you're boiling, not steaming. Steaming veggies is good because it allows them to retain more of their nutrients. I guess the same goes for tofu, although I don't actually know for sure. I suppose the method would be similar for tofu. Also, some pots are sold with steamer inserts which fit into the pot. Basically as long as it's metal, has holes, and fits into a pot, it should work (use common sense!). Hope that helped!
