TVP is Textured Vegetable Protein. It is produced from soybeans after

the hull and oil have been removed. The remaining material, defatted soy

flour, is used in place of meat. TVP was developed to be approximately

52% protein so that when it was dehydrated, it would have the same

protein content as ground meat. The following chart shows the comparison

of TVP to Meat:

Calories Protein(g) Cholesterol(mg) Fat(g) Sodium(mg)

TVP 70 13 0 0.3 4

(hydrated)

Ground 265 21 82 17 70

Beef

Ground 217 25 80 13 75

Chicken

Ground 209 22 63 13 75

Turkey

If you cannot buy it in your local health food or grocery store, you can

order it directly from a place called:

Harvest Direct

P.O. Box 4514

Decatur, Il 62525

800-835-2867

There is also an online store that carries the same thing but they don't

call it TVP because that is a registered trademark. This is not the same

company, but has the same name. The online name is also Harvest Direct @

www.harvestdirect.com

Hi :)

i didn't see a reply listed to this.. so i'm answering.. my apologies

if you got heaps of these already :)

TVP is Textured Vegetable Protein.. it comes dehydrated and you

reconstitute it in water before cooking with it. You can find it

sold in bulk in health food groceries or order it by mail. Just put

TVP or the long version in your search engine.

It is used in this house at least twice a week.

Good luck :)
