I agree that pushing does not help! It makes my tykes stubborn. What we do is fix them a meal, usually something we are reasonably sure they will like, and give it to them, along with one or two sides, and if they eat it, they eat it, if not, oh well. They can wait til snack or the next meal. Sounds hard nosed, I guess. But I know they will eat when they are hungry, because I've seen them chow down things they didn't usually like and turn away things they usually do, all depending on how hungry they are. I don't have any advice on how to get a picky eater to eat. My son loves chili powder, which we found out once when he dumped a bottle all over the table and started eating it, so we put a little on his food and that often helps.
